The knit originated in the late 18th century on the Shetland island of Fair Isle, where it was originally worn by fisherman for warmth. The design was brought back into vogue after Menswear icon Edward, the Prince of Wales (A.K.A The Duke Of Windsor), wore a Fair Isle Waistcoat in 1921, implementing the design into the wider fashion conscious.
